Girl power at Clico

Resident chef, Sean Ackerman, has his work cut out at Clico, where girl power seems to be the rule. While our general manager, Carien Benadie, is on maternity leave, she is at ease knowing that Tammy Giliam, Sonja van der Merwe and Carmen Goodwin are steering this successful guesthouse in the right direction! Sean gets his own back as guests and non-resident diners still ask for his divine cuisine. “The ladies manage Clico well, but I’m still the king of my kitchen”, he grins.
Tammy Giliam was a hotel executive in Camps Bay in Cape Town and loves the chic, warm feel at Clico, where, as general manager, she inspires her team to be the best they can be, yet still reflect their own personalities in their job.
Carmen Goodwin’s expertise in the hotel industry and her tendency to spoil clients are well received by Clico guests, who report that they feel “special”.
Sonja van der Merwe’s experience in the guest-house industry, combined with theatre and corporate events' planning, is proving beneficial to Clico and its vibrant young management team.
This team has one goal: to create the best experience for leisure and business travellers and diners at Clico.
Wine tasting with GlenWood
Clico hosted a wine-tasting evening for the International Women’s Club on May 21, where delectable canapés, created by Sean Ackerman, were complemented with five GlenWood wines presented by "DP" Burger, winemaker at GlenWood Vineyards in Franschhoek. Wines included the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, 2008 Chardonnay Vigneron, 2008 Semillon Vigneron, 2007 Merlot and 2007 Shiraz, all of which are rated between four and four-and-a-half stars by Platter’s.

Clico and South African artists
Owner Jeanette Schwegman’s passion for local art is reflected at Clico, where Vernon Swart’s evocative Nude Woman sketch features in Room 1. Vernon lives and works in Stellenbosch and his unique style features nudes and moody landscapes. Vernon is a favourite in private collections in South Africa and has also exhibited in London, New York and Amsterdam.
